I really want to get a HD2600XT. My psu is a 300w it has 19a on a single +12v rail. If I got the HiS HD2600XT 512mb GDDR3 IceQ would that work or would I need somthing a bit more powerfull. I have a Heavily OC'd 7600GS in my comp atm. The rest is AMD X2 4200+ @ 2.2ghz 2046mb DDR2 533 (4x 512mb) A single 7200RPM HDD One DVD/CD lightscribe player. I know I can run a 8600GT but I think the HD2600XT has potential. I dont really need a 8800GTS because I only have a 1024x768 res moniter and its pretty big to me so I dont want to upgrade it.
If your machine can handle a 7600GS it should do fine with a 2600XT. The more obvious question is, why do you need a 2600XT? It´s performance is roughly on par with a 7600GT and the performance jump from what you have to the new card is quite small?
Hey DON'T get the GDDR3 version get the GDDR4 version instead it is clocked 800mhz or 600mhz (effective) higher I think, thats if you can spare the extra cash.
Well I really just want DX10 I can already play everygame I have at med - high at the least with 2x AA so a little boost would be nice. The HD2600's dont look like there doing good in benchies but the HD2900 was pretty bad but new drivers made it good. Im not getting this for at least a few months so drivers could improve. So I would be pushing it with a 2600XT but I havent seen anything on the 2600PRO are there any benchmarks?
I saw the 8600GTS uses 47w if the 86GT uses 30w thats not too much right? Or would I be pushing that still. I was going to get the XFX 8600GT XXX OC or EVGA 8600GTS SuperClocked but if the GTS is too much I think ill be happy with the GT.
you like seemingly everyone else thinking of buying a mid range 2 or 8 series are buying for the wrong reasons IMO.
Im only going to be playing at 1024x768 res its not like a NEED a 8800GTS for that... I only have a 300w with 19a on the +12v rails so its not like I have much room for growth!
