Symptoms of dvd drive failure

I need to know if my DVD Drive is gone out? When I put in a CD or DVD it won't read. So I can't listen to cd's or watch dvd's. When I run a test on the device my computer says the the device is working properly!! but that's not true because nothings playing.Is the drive gone out and I need to purchase a new drive. PLEASE HELP thanks.

  1. Most often the drive has failed. A couple of things to try are to change the SATA/IDE cable and make sure it's connected properly. Also, uninstall the DVD player in Device manager and let windows reinstall the SATA/IDE system driver on reboot. Then of course try a new unit and see if it works properly. Samsung optical drives I have owned have failed and needed to be replaced after a short stint of being put into operation.
