I need to buy a new TV antenna for my parents. They are in a
fringe area with stations in all directions, most being 40
to 75 miles distant. They got decent reception with their
old (very old) antenna and rotor. The anteanna was trashed
by a recent storm, and I want to get them a new set-up -
anteanna, rotor, and amplifer. I want to make sure it is
compatible with HDTV as well as current VHF and UHF signals.
I looked at antennaweb for zip code 27944 and see that I
need a violet coded antenna for most of the stations, a blue
coded antenna for a couple we'd like to get, and a red coded
antenna for one station (a close one!) that is not so
important. I'd love recommendations for the various parts.
The antenna will be mounted on a chimmney on top of a 1
story ranch style house. There is pine forest across the
road to the north with some very large trees. Specific
recmmendations (suppliers and part numbers) would be very
helpful.

For UHF starters I'd recommend a Channel Master 3021

4 bay bow tie unit.... about $25.00 using RG-6 dual

shielded antenna cable...

That 4 bay bow tie easily does 40 miles: Green Bay to Oshkosh
mounted in a Garage....

The same antenna does 60 miles too: Eau Claire to Wisc Rapids
mounted at 1st Floor gutter level outdoors...

If you need a signal boost... Try the Channel Master 8 bay bow
tie..
It is a real winner in that it essentially replaces a signal
Amplifier...

These are UHF antenna that cover Chan 14 thru 59 UHF

It also covers VHF Channels 7 thru 13 IF they are closer...

THese UHF units work poorly for VHF Chan 2 thru 6....
which could die after Analog shuts down ....

As for a Rotor, I'm not up on the Topic.... Last used one in 1951.
while living Between Milwaukee & Chicago...
