Ive just started playing with Everest and in the System tray it shows 3 Temperatures:

Temperature: CPU: 39
Temperature: CPU#1 / Core #1: 46
Temperature: CPU#1 / Core #2: 46

on forums and stuff you see people saying my cpu tem is x degrees etc

What is the actual temperature of my CPU? which number should i pay attention to? and is this in line with an e6300 w/freezer pro 7

(im trying to judge how good my cooling is, considering an overclock)

Core 2 Duo E6300
Gigabye GA-9653-DS3 Mobo

many thanks

Hey
i have the same mobo and similar CPU (E6420...like your E6300 only with 4MB L2 cache.) My Speedfan temps are 37 C and 40C for cores 0 and 1. Intel TAT reads 40C and 40C. It appears that your temps are within normal limits and all is well.

the Cores #1 and #2 or the cpu temp

which one is the true CPU temp?

There is no 'true' CPU temperature. The temperature varies over the CPU die and those sensors represent the temperatures between the cores and at the hot point of each core respectively. Which temperature is used for comparison varies. Due to this its only really useful to compare it to figures measured using the same version of the same software.

Hey Jetpac,
your core temps of 46c seem ok. Just make sure your Freezer hsf is seated properly, although your core temps would be about 10c higher per core if that was a real problem. Like I said, Speedfan and/or Intel TAT would be good to run at all times. Also a great sys info program [free] SIW by G. Topala [see at majorgeeks.com]..it has temps and all other possible system, cpu etc. info you could want. Try it.
