Are the price drops of 22/7/07 only on the Q6600 and QX6700, or will there also be a price drop for the Dual-Cores? As in, should I buy my E6420 now or in 2 weeks?

Thnx.

They are probably going to drop the prices, and you should probably wait.

the reason that I saw this is that, in addition to lowering quad core prices, intel is also bringing out new cpus.

these new cpus use higher fsbs, and are rated at 2.33, 266, and 3 GHz.

so the old dual cores will probably drop.

Hey Track,
I got the E6420 last week and I believe it was worth it. I was told that the price cut would be minimal on July 22. The chip has 4MB L2 cache and rocks. I OC'd it to 3GHz and all is stable. A great CPU and, unless going to a quad at $266, I don't think you'll be disappointed by getting it now. Good luck.
P.S. Using Gigabyte DS3 rev. 3.3 Mobo and 2GB RAM.

I'm guessing it'll be on the q6600 the most; part of Intel's strategy to erode market share from AMD before they launch their quads later this year. Bad news for AMD, good news for you.

There comes a point in time where you have to make a call either way, or else you risk never buying anything. Just accept the fact that in 12 months, your whatever chip will be much less and for the same money you can buy the latest whatever chip that will be faster that your current one.

That said, I think $300 for a Q6600 is that point (although I paid significantly more for mine back in April.)

No the the 1066 Dual Cores will also come down a bit Since the new 1333 Dual Cores will eventually be taking their place. Also keep in mind that the Quad cores will have the new G0 stepping which will lower the voltage and give them better overclocking abilities hopefully. I think the QX6700 at $530 looks pretty good. Since it is being replaced by the QX6800 which is going for $1300.00 now will drop down to $999. Happy Quad Core Hunting!!!!

whats the difference between q6700 and qx6700? locked/ unlocked multipliers?

Yep completly, and IDK whats happening with the QX6700, because the Q6700 will be that same prcie, selling one with multi unlocked and one with it locked is pretty silly if they are at the same price.
