Can I hot-plug an internal sata drive using an eSata bracket? I just want to be able to take a regular drive and plug it into the back of my case to take info off like I do with usb enclosures.

I just hooked one up to my sata ports and it allows the drive to work no problem after boot up. When I try to hot plug it though the drive (120GB Barracuda 7200.7) does not even begin to spin in my MSI P965 Platinum even though the board & drive's documentations show hot-plug capability. In my Asus A7N8X-E Dx, the drive spins but is not recognized by disk management.

If the motherboard is fully esata (2.0) compliant, and your OS is up to date (XP SP2), then yes. eSATA is Hotswappable. The quickest way to find out is plug one in and if it apears in the Safely remove hardware section near the clock in the lower right, then you are good to go.
