I'm selecting part for a new build, the machine will likely be a dual boot Win2K Pro / Win XP Pro. The motherboard and nVidia GPU are both Win2K / WinXP friendly. How can I find out if IDE CD/DVD Burners will also be usable on Windows 2000? Are there certain brands that are better at this kind of compatibility then other brands?

Thank you

I have had no issues running CD/DVD burners in Windows 2000 (or 98se). I come across plently in my work as well (100's).

The most common one is NEC, but as long as you have the driver disk, you shouldn't have any issues. Remember, XP shares a lot of OS code with windows 2000, so many XP only drivers work in 2000.

Secondly, you can find out by going to a drive's manufacturer's website and selecting drivers for the product you like (such as Liteon) and see if they offer a windows 2000 driver.

A quick google search shows me that HP has a few more issues then other drives while BenQ (good brand) has good results.

Good luck.
