Anyone have any strong feelings for or against any of Newegg's available products? Or is it pretty much just different names colors and the same quality of product at this price range?

Just go for a 30 or so dollar DVD+RW.... Nec seems to be a good choice.

Those cheap writers last about half a year or so (my experience); but they are so cheap that I don't care.

No,they're not just name and color. You can get a quality name brand CD/DVD in the $20-$30 range. I've had much success with NEC and Lite-On.
