How to install dvd, sata hard drive and then connect m/board

currently building the following system:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz
2GB 667MHZ DDR2
MSI 975X Platinum Power UP Motherboard
Sapphire X1550 512MB PCIE Graphics Card
Samsung Lightscribe 18XDVD+/-RW/R
80GB Segate Hardrive
FREECOM 250GB USB 2.0 EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE
1.44 floppy drive
Tsunami Dream Silver with Window Case
350 Watt PSU
Windows XP Home
Keyboard and mouse
HP L1706 17" LCD Monitor

installed the motherboard, processor, heat sink and fan, dvd writer, floppy drive and sata hard drive.

my question is how do i connect cables from dvd writer to hard drive and then to the motherboard?

If both the DVD and HD are sata, run seperate sata connectors to seperate SATA controllers on the MB. Be sure to connect the drives to 'common' SATA MB connectors, not 'special' RAID controllers provided by some MBs.

SATA is serial ata thus 1 to 1. It isn't like regular uata cable where you can connect 2 devices to one cable. There's always exceptions though. Some eSATA ports allow port multiplier thus can effectively double, triple, qudruple.. etc the number of devices on one cable.
