Im getting a 8600GT soon and was wondering if there are any HS/fans for it. I dont need thermal paste like CPU's tho right? The reason is my psu is only a 300w with 19a on the +12v rail and im gonna be playing at 1024x768 so dont tell me to get another card! :fou:

I know stock is OK but my card(7600GS) is pretty hot(57c under load) and its only OC'd by 40 on the core and mem(I get artifacts past 440core and 400 mem) and im getting a AMD X2 5200+ soon b/c my 4200+ is pretty bad OCer I can only get it to 2.5 on stock. Im getting the eVGA 8600GT (step up!!!!!!) b/c I can step up to it for 50$ so can anyone reccomend a HS/Fan for a 8600GT?

Here's a list of the 8600GT's at newegg. Most of these are an enclosed ducted-fan type. A few, the Foxconn, Asus, and Biostar are open designs that really don't need an after-market cooler/fan. There are claims that this type of open design runs significantly cooler than enclosed ducted-fan types. IMHO choosing one of these three 8600GT's elimiates the need for after-market/3rd-party solutions.

As for your CPU choice, its better to go with the 65nm Brisbane cores if you want to o/c. Most people stick to either the 3600+ or the 4000+ depending on sale price/ bundle. These easily go from 1.9GHz or 2.1 GHz to 2.5-2.7 GHz with the stock H/S fan. As always, have good airflow in the case. Maybe buy a 120mm fan. These CPU's are cheap enough to afford it, and then some.

Buy a new power supply 300 watt is really small. You may run into stablitiy issues once you get everything running. And PS are cheap.

Agreed: get at least a 450W PSU A Rosewill RP500 is cheap and stable (very little ripple that can damage parts). Should be adequate upto 350-400W loading. (running these at rated load of 500W not a good idea as theres an internal cooling bug: the lifetime of the PSU will decrease)
