I will built a new pc soon. From my current setup I might keep only my 19" monitor.I want to buy a GTX.If I keep my monitor,I will be gaming @ 1280 1024.I am thinking of getting a 22" Wide, but I am not sure if I want to do this, and thats because I am not really sure that I will be able to play all the new demanding games(such as Crysis)at such a high resolution with everything maxed out.Do you think that the GTX is enough for gaming at 1680 1050?Should I stick with my 19" or should I go for the 22"Wide?Is gaming at higher resolutions going to be so much better than my current one?

It would likely play it alright at the higher resolution, but for just a few inches is there any point in upgrading really?

Well, a GTX is plenty for current games at that res, so I imagine that the preformance hit of DX10 will effect the 22 inch the same as the 19. Who knows if the game will be up to your standards at either res. My guess is that if the GTX can run it at 1280, it can also run it at 1680. It has the ram to do it, at least. Can't be sure till the game is released, though.

I recently went from my 6 year old Sony 19" 1280x1024 monitor to a 24" widescreen 1920x1200. I run an E6600 and 8800GTX so previously I was cranking everything to max.

Now I play @ 1920x1200 and I still crank everything to max hehe Now obviously Im not running Crysis, but honestly, given the issues with all DX10 hardware, and what I've seen for DX10 Demo benchies I dont expect to be able to max AA/AF but thats ok imo the resolution is what its all about anyhow. I dont expect anyone will be playing Crysis w/o some sacrifice unless drivers get a whole lot better, if thats even possible.

As a side note I bought the Samsung 245BW monitor. I got it for $499 at Fry's, though there were mixed reviews on NewEgg some other people liked it. The Cons on NewEgg were mostly centered around the viewing angle. Guess what, it doesnt make a good HDTV and I can see how some people would be dissapointed w/ the viewing angle. But head on, the way I play my computer, it looks excellent. Too high above it and it gets a tint, too far below it and it gets dark. However I stay right in front of it, and I get to see all my games in the new glorious 24" 1920x1200 resolution and wow I get now why so many people like widescreen gaming, I have been converted to the WideScreen Faith!

Thanks for the replies.Do you think that I would be ok with a 640Mb GTS aswell?I think I would be fine at 1280 1024..Damn its a hard decision.I have a few more days to decide though, either Im getting a Samsung 226BW and a GTX or Im keeping my LG 19" and getting a GTS/GTX.

Yeah the GTS-640 should be more than fine for that resolution, but of course you will have to knock down the AA level a bit from insane to damn good AA.

And as it goes for future titles, IMO the GTS and GTX will both be relatively weak compared to their Fall/Winter replacements. So I'd say save the money, get the GTS-640, and then get a GF9x or AMD equivalent when the DX10 games come out that you can't play on the GTS-640, because IMO when that time occurs the GTX won't be much better so better to save the money now and re-invest later.

Nope. He need and old reliable TI4200. It works for all games.

I'm running an 8800gtx on my 226bw and it runs any game I can throw at it fine at max settings. I only run 4xAA and 8xAF as I don't feel that going any higher is worth it. Good article on it here...http://au.gamespot.com/features/6168650/index.html

I game on a Viewsonic VG2030wm which is also 1680x1050, and my 8800GTS 640mb handles it just fine. I would assume that since a GTX is quite a bit more power full and has more memory that only a 2 inch increase wouldn't make that much of a difference. Hell... I know some people that have a GTX running on a 37" 1080p monitor.
