This is what I have so far, the #1 goal is cheap. The one thing I am not quite sure about is what powersupply to get. This system will pull very little power but I don't want it blowing up on them.

Here is what I have so far.

ECS GeForce6100SM-M (1.0) Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100S

1 GB (2x512MB) Wintec DDR2 800 $40

SONY NEC Optiarc Black 18X DVD+R $31

I can't decide if i should try to get a decent case+Psu combo for ~$40 or if i should buy them seperatley.

I don't want to spend more that $15-20 on a case, and I want to spend as little as possible on the PSU, without it being a pile of garbage.

Thanks for any help

Rosewell at newegg has some cases with decent 450w PSUs, just got one for my grandson. That CPU is OEM and so no HSF and the warranty is shorter, for the money you'd be better off with a retail version and for $5 you could get the X2 3800 65w. If they have a digital camcorder, might want to consider this board for the onboard firewire.

Have a couple of them and have been terrific plus they have a DVI connection

Hey thanks for your input, I have changed it to the Retail version CPU and Motherboard seperately, not the OEM in the combo deal. That motherboard you suggested looks cool, but just a little too expensive for this build.

So here is my build ATM

http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813135039 $50
ECS GeForce6100SM-M (1.0) Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100S Micro ATX

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103036 $66
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9GHz

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144415 $49
WD 160 GB HD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161067 $40
1 GB (2x512MB) Wintec DDR2 800

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827131038 $31
SONY NEC Optiarc Black 18X DVD+R

Total: $236

I really need some Case and PSU suggestions. I want to get both for under $50 total and keep this build under $300.

I have also been considering the Micro ATX cases cause I think my parents would like how compact they are and stuff. Anyone have good/bad experience with these?

Thanks again!
