Possible to use a router to turn on a tv

I was wondering if it would be possible to use a linksys wrt54gs router to turn on a tv and my cable box. I'm not asking for someone to write me up a code to do this but would it be possible to send that type of signal from a router.

And if you think im lazy for wanting to do this why did someone invent the remote?

Is this so that you don;t have to wait for the TV and cable box to start up when you transfer yourself from the computer seat to the sofa?
