Hey all, I was just reading this gamespot guide on different graphics settings. It gives some interesting comparisons between different AA and AF levels. After reading it I changed all my setting so I only run at 4xAA and 8xAF, it seems that the changes in going higher just aren't worth it.

Enjoy

Yeh, thats true. 4xAA is the sweet spot.

But if u have an 8800 GTX, u can enable 16xAA and not notice the difference in performance.

Nice find.
Interesting to see a review talk about how minor the differences are.

Between 4/4X and 16/16X that's amazing.

And on the next page with AA the 0-2-4X diff are massive, and then drop off.

And even AF the biggest jump is 0-4X, which confirms my experiences with Oblivion, which I just don't playing without at least 4X HQ AF enabled. And the draw distance, yeah just could never play Morrowind or Oblivion without max draw distance, but that's the least impactful going 50->100%, and definitely worth keeping everything else looks like you're playing near in the Maritimes or the UK.

Once again nice find.

After looking at the comparison images between 4,8 and 16xAA all I can say is that 8 and 16xAA look worse than 4xAA.
But I think that when you look at a slightly bigger image than the 640x480 picture they had, you WOULD see the difference. So it's kind of biased.

Well i have a question when playing at 1600x1200 do you really need aa?
Well ofcourse af is vitol for image quality but at high resolution it has only the a slight difference.

You never really "need" AA. But it's always nice.
Today you can buy a graphics card that will play all games with AA for less than 150$.

Mostly from electronic stores, such as Newegg.com.
But you may find a couple in places like pizza parlers and barber shops.

I reccomend the XL anchovey Pizza with a side order of Radeon X1950XT.

I can't play a 3d game without 2xAA 4xAF, and preferably 4xAA. However I've never seen any difference between regular AF and HQ AF, at least on my X800XL.

I play most of my games at 4XAA and 8XAF (except oblivion, for obvious reasons) :sarcastic:

nice find mate, a good read :)

I normally modify my games using this guide site: http://www.tweakguides.com/

it hasnt got all the games, but does have the ones I usually play.
