Buying an external hd - Does my dell have firewire A or B ?

Hi

I would like to buy a western digital MyBook external harddrive, for my dell Inspiron 9400 laptop.

However, have no idea whether the 1394 connetcor will work on my notebook connector.

should i get the MyBook with the firewire A or the B?

You can go to dell.com, go to support and enter you Service Code or whatever it's called and you should be able to find all the specs of your computer. You could also go to Dell's online chat support or what ever it's called and ask, again reference the Service Code

Take a picture and post it up here and I can tell you. Many notebooks have the mini A connection. It uses the speed of A but has miniature connection that is different from the normal A connector.
