My psu is a 480W xilence power supply with 24pin connector, my motherboard is an asrock conroexfire-esata2 with 20 pin socket. I've been using a 24 to 20 pin connector thing, but I've been having problems with random crashing while gaming and buggy graphics. I've tried sending in my graphics card (bfg 7900gt 256mb oc) to be repaired and reinstalling graphics card drivers but it doesn't do anything. Just wondering if this could have anything to do with this connector, or my power supply in general, and also if there's any way that I can test that the power supply is working as it should. Thanks in advance
Using a 24pin PSU on a 20pin mobo should be just fine. It's going the other way that often causes problems.
What are your temps? Heat can cause the problems you describe. If your temps are normal, I'd run some memory tests.
You could also try underclocking the graphics card and see if stability improves.
Try turning down (or off) any sound acceleration features. Buggy sound drivers are not uncommon. A possible giveaway is looping sound when your system crashes.
