I just got a 1gb stick of PQI DDR 400 RAM to go with my other 1gb stick of the same RAM for dual channel. And at the same time I got an AMD Opteron 170 to put in my rig. Now, every few hours my machine crashes for no reason. At first I thought it was the CPU, but it crashes no matter what I'm doing with the CPU, I could just be browsing the internet and it crashes. And it keeps really cool, 26 Celsius on idle.

Maybe my RAM is faulty?

So run memtest86+ for a couple of complete passes and see...

Good thing I have a dual boot with Ubuntu, which has an option to boot into memtest86+. :)

It got through a pass, and it was still going.

If your machine doesn't crash while running Ubuntu, that would suggest a Windows driver issue. Make sure your chipset, video, audio, etc drivers are the latest.

Actually it just crashed again in Windows, so I took the RAM out, and I'll wait and see if it crashes again. If it does, I think it would have to be a CPU problem (Because I'm using a new CPU as well as new RAM). Then I'll try Ubuntu.

Great, it crashed again, and it only took 20 minutes this time. :(
