A question:

Do I upgrade my 8800 320MB card?

Current:

Athlon 64 x2 6000+
Asus Asus M2N32-SLI
4gig DDR2 6400 OC2 Platinum edition
17" monitor (1280 x 1024)

I don't intend of getting a bigger monitor however I do want to be able to run games at max detail with AA at least x8............

Suggestions please? Looking at the Asus 8800 ultra -- is this a pointless upgrade?

Hummm pointless?

When you buy a game and can not play it to your standards... then upgrade. Otherwise you are wasting your money.

The ultra will come down in price, and it may be some time before you cant play games on full (save oblivion) at your expected level.

Plus, we dont know how well these cards perform in DX10. The ultra might suck and the 8900 series could be that much better.

My opinion is that the money would be better spent on a bigger monitor the card you have will be happy running a higher res which will mean you wont need to run as much AA to get the same quality this route would be way cheaper than getting an ultra then the money saved can go to a second/third (who knows how long it will take them to get dx10 right) :D card.
