I just ordered a AMD 6000+, I'm upgrading from a 3800+

I read a lot of reviews and heat seems to always be a issue. My 3800+ runs between 30c & 35c. My question is at what temperature should I start to get concerned?

Im using a NZXT case with three 120mm fans and one 80mm

The 6000+ have a TDP of 125W, which is higher than the 89W/65W found on all other X2's. But, it ships with a heatpipe cooler so you should be all right.

Like evongugg said, if your processor stays in the 50's at full load with stock cooling, you're fine.

Here's somewhat related concern: my X2 4400 Brisbane hits ~55C on full load and I have a Thermaltake MaxOrb on it with AS Ceramique. It is, however, in a small SFF case (Thermaltake Lanbox). Should I be concerned?

My 3400 Newcastle @ Stock hits 65+(Measured after the restart it causes) after 30 mins of CODUO. :p

Im not sure if this applies to dual core AMD 64s but 70 is roughtly the emergency cut off, so below 60 should be safe.

got my X2 6000+ today (thanks NewEgg!).... easy peasy to install, I had to flash the BIOS but she is running nice and cool at 33c. I upgraded from a X2 3800+

55c should not be problem if that's the max temp. I have a X2 4400+ in my other computer and 55c is the max it gets, though usually it runs between 45c-50c. The safe temp is closer to 60c, but I like things cooler then that.

@ MrMJS, sounds like you've got a good temp if you're only running 33c. As long as you don't go over 55c when the cpu is stressed, you should be fine.

a nice case helps too, I'm using a NXZT case, it has three 120mm fans and one 80mm fan.. still nice and quiet though :)

To Sailer: Actually, I'm beginning to be concerned because I've had several system shutdowns while playing a game. I fully loaded both the cores with Orthos and temps are more like 58C - sometimes touching 59C and backing down to 58C there after. Summer days just getting a few degrees warmer.... eek.

I ramped up the fan speed while gaming and having had a shutdown - yet, and hopefully won't again. I think I set my CPU shutdown temperature at 60C - if indeed that setting is the shutdown temp.

Problem usually happen when the video card heat up the air inside the case at a point that the CPU cooler cannot worl efficiently anymore.

Improving case ventilation will help in that case.

To Pat:

I have an Azenx Blitzstorm installed directly underneath the GPU as I also have a Creative X-Fi card installed (underneath the Azenx). I also installed a TT 80mm Slot Fan as an exhaust right above the GPU. I have the MAXIMUM possible airflow inside the case; I even installed an additional 80mm fan onto the XFX card itself using some rubber bands and tape. I don't have any more room for fans...

Your SFF type case is a limiting factor. One thing I see is that the cpu fan/heatsink isn't very big. A larger one would no doubt help, but I don't know the space available. A second thing is to back off the overclock to stock. That should help the temps as well.

I have no overclock on the chip - ALL STOCK. The MaxOrb is the biggest cooler as far as I know, which is the reason for this thread (to find the biggest/best cooler - whichever is better than the MaxOrb).

My mistake. I'm used to the Windsor cored 4400+ cpu's at 2.2 ghz.

A bigger, better cooler would be a Tuniq Tower for instance, but I don't know how much room you have to install such a cooler. Other good ones would be a Thermaltake CL-P0071 or a CL-P0024. But I don't know if any of these would fit into your case.

You need a good heat pipe cooler with the 6000 as you would with a 4ghz p4 - thermalroght or zalman

if you have the space the big thermal rights

or want a more compact unit go with cylinder shaped zalman

I've just updated my system with a 6000+, i'm using a scythe andy samurai to cool it, with 2 80mm fans pulling air in from the front and 1 blowing it out the back. My graphics card is also using an after market zalman VF700 cooler.
My system idles between 48-50 and under load peaks at 55, i havnt done any hardcore testing yet but should these temps be lower??

Cheers

i have a 6000+ under a stock HSF. runs between 30 and 35c depending on ambient, but it never has hit more than 53-55. (using everest ultimate edition to measure). these are temps i consider safe, even though i cam coming from a venice 3200+ (939) that never topped out at higher than 46c. mid 50's should be no problem at all.

Don't have the clearance - I have only about 100mm from the CPU to the PSU. Well, I guess I will try lapping the Thermaltake MaxOrb when I get back from my trip.
