I have the a8n32-sli deluxe board.. it says it supports ddr 184pin memory... I purchased ddr2 240pin from newegg... I'm assuming that this memory will not be compatible with my board.. correct?

Thanks for the help.

Correct, you'll have to send it back and get DDR, 184 pin. Or if you're looking for a reason to build a new system, keep it and get a new mobo, cpu, and video card. The justification for the new system is the restocking charge you'll save :) Don't feel too bad, safe bet all of us have done something like at some time or another.

Thanks for the reply... I intend to get one of the x38 MBs coming out soon, and from what I just read this morning (after the order), that MB will only accept ddr3... so unfortunately I can't use it on this PC, or on the one I'm rebuilding (assuming that MB). My own mistake for not doing enough research.

Thanks a lot for the response.

Double check it's possible x38 board will run DDR2 as well as DDR3. From what I've read DDR3 is pretty expensive right know and depending on your budget, you might want to use it at least till DDR3 prices start dropping. All may not be lost

If you want to hold on to that memory, you'll absolutely be able to get an X38 board that supports it. Someone somewhere else in here was saying that even though Intel is markteing the chipset as DDR3 only, motherboard manufacturers are making them with DDR2 support as well.

Here are a couple of X38 DDR2 boards for you to drool over until they're released

The Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6

MSI X38 Diamond - it supports DDR2 and DDR3

Foxconn X38A - looks like it also supports DDR2 and 3

Benchmarks so far show no benefit with ddr-3 ram.Maybe in the future, same with hybrid hard drives.Good ideas that need more development.

Thanks guys... I thought I had goofed up for sure.. you saved me a restocking fee I would have paid not knowing that a board is being made to support DDR2... THANKS!
