Hey guys. Im thinking about upgrading my cpu a bit and my options are limited since i have a 939 cpu board. I mostly do gaming on my pc, which is coupled to a 7900gt video card. My question is would a single core 4000+ or a 3800+ dual core be faster for gaming. I know both these cpu's can be heavily overclocked. Thanks guys.

you would be way better off with a low end dual core then high end single core

you better served with a good am2 mobo and chip and ddr2 capblity for 30-50% increase in memroy bandwidth

I disagree,

At this point your cpu will not be holding you back, if you want an upgrade... go to 2gb from 1gb or upgrade your videocard.

Your 4000 is not an issue at this point. I have a 3700+ and I suggested to my friend to get an X2 3800 and my system beats the living crap out of his and he hates me now.

I don't really care, because I am always down for bragging rights. lol

But yes... if you want more performance get an 8800GTS or GTX ... then when in a year or two when multiple cores are truly required, then upgrade your platform.

... AM2... *shudders*

Yes it is better for the future... but the future will require GOOD dual core processors...

If you are going to go dual core... get a kickass one... or a fairly kickass one... not an entry level processor. If you upgrade now... you will be wasting your money.

If you truly need a dual core now... at least get an Opteron 170, but I still don't think it is necessary.
