DirectSound test results: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HR

I cannot solve this problem!! I have no sound from build-in speakers. The computer is compaq persario V6000. Whwn I tested with the windows XP help I received a messege error saying: DirectSound test results: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)
I will appreciated if someone can provide some assistance

I have no sound caming from the build in speaker. My computer is Compaq presario V6000. I have windows XP pack 3. I tested the sound, the volume, and everything! I the last test that i have been done is one that say
DirectSound test results: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)
What else can I do to repair de sound card? I will appreciated any recomendation!

I have the exact same problem on a Acer Aspire 3000
I have tried everything from relaoding machine, changed sound drivers, it works once in while for little while then it goes away. No soind again. very weird. I did a fresh install from the disks it came with.
It is a corrupt file that fades in and out.
Any Help People?
