What is a good and sorta cheap mobo for the new intel Core 2 Duo E6850? Also it has to be able to run my 2gigs of corsair xms2 ddr2 800mhz ram because I don't want to pay for more ram ;) Thanks guys

well that mobo you show says that it wont support my 800mhz ram and by all the reviews I see it runs hot. But it is more close to something I'd want, I just mentioned that mobo above because it can run the processor and my ram, I wasn't really wanting a board with ddr3 support ;)

If you are trusting product reviews from New Egg then you should have all the answers. :heink:

The motherboard supports DDR2 800.

VR-ZONE review

This motherboard also will support FSB1333 and DDR2 800
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 rev3.3

Gigabyte,Asus,Abit,MSI..... All these manufactures make motherboards that will support FSB1333 processors.
Personally I like Gigabyte and Asus.

lastest intel chipset is really good... the p35 chipset runs hot but has a really big heatsink with heatpipes...

asus P5K ( vanilla ) is good... P5K deluxe for serious overclockers and GA-P35-DQ6 for nuts...

( nuts are in the "better than serious overclockers" category )

if you want to buy chipset coolers yourself, just get a cheap P5K-SE and watercool the components instead of the crappy heatsink it includes...

if you don't want to pay much for your ddr2 ram, i think crucial ballistix is still the cheapest...
msi p35 neo-f
biostar has one too... the cheapest i bet...

Stress Test: Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Vs. Pentium 840 EE
test comparing s939 vs 775
in 2005

it's not C2D either
the 4000 series doesn't share cache memory.
it gives less but still comparing in clock for clock performance, it is better than amd X2 and it's what anybody should expect, A64 X2 is an old architecture right now. as much as the Pentiums were old when A64 came out... even with Pentium D, it wasn't better... now it's amd that needs a new architecture... unless they cut prices...

think about it... i still have a fast computer with my s939 3700+ overclocked to 2.8ghz with 400mhz 2gb ram.
never had to reboot within a year, i clean my temporary files manually...
i only had to change a psu fan...

phenom will logically be only lightly faster than the C2D due to the short time between both technology.
while the conroe could even stay the prefered choice for overclockers as reaching higher maximum clocks, phenom could support unavailable features on amd's side... onchip partial graphical processing could be an interesting option... shared cache was a great idea intel managed to materialize, load balancing would be a good thing too. as a quad core with one of the cores useable to evenly distribute tasks between remaining cores... while managing the cache...

right now, get a C2D... ( 6X20 performs better... if you want a light overclocking, get a 6320, 6420 for medium overclocking and 6600 for huge overclocking... )
i'll wait for lower clocked quad versions...

I forgot to ask, is it even worth it to go for the new processors? I have an E6400 and a msi p965 platinum. I have someone that would buy it from me along with an old 500 watt psu I have and my 7600gt I'm going to get rid of for a dx10 card. I am guessing it is pretty worth it, I might make a new thread about it on cpu forum if there isn't already

how about the asrock 4core1333-ViiV mobo. ocx benchwork has previewed this board and from the looks of it is the cheapest among the other 1333mhz fsb board on the market. It has 6 sata 2 ports (4 are i think controlled by via and 2 by jmicron), 4 ddr2 800 slots upto 4-8 gigs max, intel 965 chipset. pci-e 16x vga slot, price is yet to be announce or was it announce already?

@cowcrusher, correct me if i misunderstood it, your using the asrock 4core1333 or only a board that has jmicron on it? if the latter, are there no patches for that?

I'm running the same chipset that needs jmicron, i have an msi p965 platinum and the only way I've found to fix the annoying lag spikes and to make it run my music recording software was to install the jmicron drivers manually.

In a word, no. Ride your current mobo and CPU until the Yorkfields come out and prices drop. If your rig is working well, then you are just wasting money and time. If you are hell bent on upgrading now, for God's sake get a P35. The only reason to even consider a 650i is if you really want SLI.
