My current pc is about four years old, socket A processor, AGP video card... and just generally not capable of running any good games. So with my annual bonus burning a hole in my pocket I want to build a new machine capable of running things like Medieval 2 and Half Life 2.

I've done some looking around, and I've come up with the following shopping list:

Motherboard

CPU
http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...410000,4294958803,4294957024,50520,4294963789

Graphics Card

Memory

Hard Drive
http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...nKey=11154,47240000,42240000,4294963789,50429

PSU

Cooler
http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...lectedId=11258&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11258

Case

What do people think? Are they all decent components? Will they all work together?
Also I've heard that you can usually get decent bundles, like a Motherboard with CPU and stuff, any suggestions on where to look for these?

Thanks in advance

everything looks good, the only change i would make is to possibly get ddrr2 800 ram instead

it's not a whole lot more and you will get better performance, especially if you plan to overclock.

the graphics card is awesome, i have the same one and it rocks!!!

the case is good too. My friend has that case and it has massive air flow. You will not be dissapointed.

Good luck with the build. Let me know if you have any other questions i can help with

Agreed, everything looks pretty good- get the RAM jedi940 pointed out.
Unless you are planning on overclocking, there is really no need for the cpu fan. Could save you a little money.

www.jncs.com specializes in pre-tested motherboard bundles with board, cpu and memory- and just about any other options you want to add.

Have bought several over the years from them. They are not the very cheapest way to go most of the time, but you do get a quality pre-tested setup that they guarentee will work. I have only had one system that I problems with from them, and they immediately overnighted me a complete new set-up without having to wait for the bad one to be RMA'd. These guys are pretty high on my list if you want a motherboard bundle.

Ok great, thanks a lot for the RAM recommendation, a little bit more for a nice boost in performance seems like a good idea.

So will the case have a good enough fan to make sure nothing explodes? I have no intention of overclocking (at least not to begin with), I think the jump from an old AGP system to a nice spangly new dual core one will be enough to satisfy me for at least 6 months!!
