:ouch: Holy Cow! What's happened to the Forum while I was away? Makeover!

Anyway, guys, help me out with this dilemma.

I bought a X1600XT from ebay couple of weeks ago for £33 incl. p&p

Specs
----------
CONNECT3D
256MB
GDDR3
Core - 600MHz
Memory - 700MHz
1400DDR
Pixel Shaders - 12

I am thinking of selling this NOW and then settling for the 8500GT Sonic when I have enough money to build my New Rig. But, apparently, according to Club Overclocker ,
2 X X1600XT in CrossFire = X1900XTX

8500GT Sonic
-------------------
XPERTVISION
256MB TURBOCACHE 512MB
GDDR3
Core - 600MHz
Memory - 1.2 GHz
RAMDAC - 400 MHz

Erm... what do I do ?

Btw, I also don't want to spend more than $100 ( thats the cost of the 8500GT )
P.S. Poll means which one should I keep?

Uhm, what I have inferred from the overall consensus about the low-end 8xxx series is that they SUCK. I think you would be better off keeping the X1600XT until Nvidia/ATi come out with better DX10 models. Look for reviews on the 8500GT vs. the X1600XT.

ATI has released the 2400 series cards this past week. You can check them out at link below. Go the New Product.

uh...yeah... The ATI midrange DX10 cards suck worse than the NV ones do. The only perform better in DX10 demos and even then it isn't playable for either card. The 2600XT keeps pace with the 8600GT not the GTS like it should.

Need to fix your link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] ew+Product

Anyhow, he would be better off with the 2600 series because the 2400 series has a 64-bit memory interface.

EDIT:

Benchmark update: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/452/6

The X1600XT beats the 8500GT - stick with what you got unless you want to upgrade to higher graphics.

The low end ATI range for DX10 werent really intended for games. They use a tiny bit of power make a very low amount of noise but can supprt 2screens with DX10 support and lots of other things.

If you plan on getting a card for gaming, look for a 1950pro. You can find them for under $150 if you look at the right places.

Yes, I do game. But, I am also not a Benchmark freak who complains about the lack of 1 Fps :D

If I can play Games on Average settings, I am happy :)

So, Final answer : Keep the X1600XT ?

Reply to zahid

Yeah I have to go with the consensus, keep the X1600XT.

As for the X1600XT X 2 = X1900XTX, I don't think that's quite correct. Also unless you have a CrossFire enabled motherboard, you won't be able to run two of these anyhow.

A note about benchmarks: They are a general comparison between graphics cards and provide a rough idea of their performance. If you can't make up your own mind by failing to do your own research, then don't belittle me...

The OP's tone bugged me...which I do not take very lightly since this is a forum to share knowledge/help.

And the inability to do research as I take it.

I doubt the 1600xt will play the upcoming games at medium at 1280x1024.

And if it does it will likely not work at a playable framerate when the action gets going.

1950pro is the next step up its definatly worth investing into it.

Did the Research ( Gpureviews.com). But they didnt have the 8500GT Sonic comparison.

Anyway, a BIG Thanks to everyone for your Input. I'll stick to the X1600XT for the time being.

Or you could get the 7600gt wich is on par with the radeon x1650xt and can pretty much beat your x1600xt in every game.
And it's in your budget.
