I still have an older AMD 939 AGP System with an OCed Athlon 64 X2 @ 2.6ghz and a 6800GT 256mb.

Its still runs a lot of games fine just the cutting edge stuff causes problems.

I need a ATI or Nvidia DX10 card to bridge till winter.

I am waiting for the 45nm Intels and PCI express 2.0

Whats up with those cards and benchmarks for the ATI HD-2600 or are the Nvidias faster?

H.I.S and Sapphire already have them on their websites, but cant find them in any store and havent found a benchmark yet.

Not gonna buy a PCIe 1.1 board now and then have the same prob next year when the 2.0 cards come out.

Keep in mind that even if you do find a DX10 AGP card, unless you upgrade to Vista, it will do you no good. Before getting a DX10 card, make very sure the rest of your computer is capable of running Vista. If it can't, then you would be better off with a X1950 or 7900 series card that is AGP, and such card would not doubt be cheaper as well.

HD2600XT is crap... It's really a dead end, you either "upgrade" to HD2600XT (Ow boy...) and play a DX10 slideshow, get a faster DX9 card and play games on Dx9, or get a new system.

I would second that, but the OP wrote that he is planning a new system. He just wants a faster card until he gets that new system. In such case a X1950 or 7900 would do him fine, giving faster frame rates at a low cost.

Yeah its running Vista 64 fine, got 2GB RAM and CPU score is 5.7 I think.
Overall score only 5.1 (OCed CPU/RAM/GFX).
Playing X3 at the moment, it ran Oblivion fine. Gothic 3 is slow though.

Definitely not buying a system right now. I want 45nm + PCIe 2.0 !

just wait so you can have an even better system when you do buy it. Cause if u get a card now you subtract some money from what you can use later.

PCI-e 2.0 will most likely have some kinks when it first comes out. And the best time to buy a PC is now. AMD just slashed their processors again, while Intel is getting their cuts Saturday and adding 1333mhz FSB processors into the lineup.

You'd be a fool to not buy now if you have the money.

Why? Your 6800 should be able to last you until then.

If you want a meaningful AGP upgrade, look for the Gecube X1950 XT... it's not Dx10, but all the new Dx10 games will play just fine in Dx9.

No longer true; VisionTek has *started shipping* their HD 2400 PRO and HD 2600 PRO 256 MB AGP cards (Circuit City, both stores and Website, has them available; in fact, the local CC has the HD 2600 Pro AGP in stock, but is out of the PCIe version of the same card). Sapphire, PowerColor, and HIS Digital are due to also start their shipments later in August. (By the by, VisionTek wqill also have 512 MB AGP PRO and XT versions of both series; in fact, the XTs will be 512 MB-only.)
