The processors that AMD is releasing in those months are the Barcelona, server processors. In addition they will only run at around 2 ghz and they will be more expensive. You could always oc the q6600. The desktop CPU's, Phenom X4, will be released in Q4 hopefully. In that time frame Intel will be releasing Penryn, which is reportedly faster than the Phenom X4. If you want to wait, it might and stress the might be worth it.

Really? A true quad core? That's better than the "fake" intel quad core right? Wow, and the CPU has DIMM sockets on it? That's going to be such a beast!

To the OP: The Q6600 at ~$260 after July 22nd is going to be quite a steal and should perform just fine for 2-3 years down the road. There's no real reason to wait. The Barcelona @ 2.0 Ghz will likely only perform slightly better than the Intel model, if at all. No word yet on how well it will overclock, but since they're having trouble getting yields beyond 2Ghz, I wouldn't expect too much in that department. The Penryn will perform only slightly better clock-for-clock. Both will cost considerably more. Just grab a cheap q6600, pair it with a decent mobo such as the Asus P5K for $150, and you'll be fine for quite some time.

I personally prefer Gigabyte, but either one should work just fine.
