lapped cap and mobile 754

Anyone know how to install a heatcap from a desktop processor to a mobile processor to convert it to mate with a desktop cpu?

I've got a 3400 athlon 64 mobile that I'd like to OC and test the boundaries, but I can't get it to boot. I'm pretty sure it is because the heatsink will not properly seat on the naked die. I stripped the heatcap off of an old sempron 2600 and lapped it to a mirror finish. but when I finally got the cap off of the sempron, i noticed that the die of the processor was "glued" to the back of the heatcap. the gummy-hard glue was the consistency of JBweld or a soft charcoal. Definately different than any arctic silver or anything I've used before.
