DVD Burner Help

I have a MSI K8N Neo4 series Mobo running an AMD FX-60 with 2g mem in Dual Channel config, SATA WD 320g HDD and 2 DVD-RW Drives both 16x. 1 is a NEC ND-3520A and the other a Samsung SH-S182D. My question is i am using DVDFab amd DVD Shrink to backup movies. Well it takes damn near 30-45 minutes to rip to the HDD and then another 30-45 minutes to burn from the HDD. A Buddy of mine can complete the whole process in 20 minutes. On DVDFab mine shows that it is ripping at 3.5mb/s where his will go all the way up to 12mb/s. Both of us have similar PC's he has a Dell w/ an Intell dual core, 2gb memory SATA HDD and 16x DVD Rom and 16x DVD Burner. Why so different speeds? Do i maybe have something wrong? I would think it should take alot less time to rip and burn a movie than it does for me. we both have the programs installed the same. Any help wold be great.

have you gone to http://www.videohelp.com/

are you talking about the same movie here, and are you using 8.5GB dual layer disc? the more compression the more time, plus you could have all the default setting on both programs he might of modified his to make it run better with cleaner disc, is his ram faster, is his processor better?

Single Layer (4.7GB) read speeds
1x read speed is 1.321MB/s = ~56 minutes
6x CAV (avg. ~4x) read speed is max 7.93MB/s = ~14 minutes
8x CAV (avg. ~6x) read speed is max 10.57MB/s = ~10 minutes
12x CAV (avg. ~8x) read speed is max 15.85MB/s = ~7 minutes
16x CAV (avg. ~12x) read speed is max 21.13MB/s = ~5 minutes
