will i've got a 266bw and im thinking of buying the 8600gt so would this make a problem in games? can the card handle 1650X1050 in MID settings? can i lower the res of the monitor?

i might end up buying the x1950pro but for now its the 8600gt. will the x1950pro have a problem as the 8600GT in high res?

hey man
firstly, you should under no,i repeat NO,circumstances even be considering an 8600gt.in my opinion, its a disgrace to graphics cards everywhere, never have i been so disapointed in supposedly "next gen"hardware. its being out performed easily by high end dx9 cards such as the x1950x.get the x1950x,itl handle higher resolutions far better than any low end dx10card.do it!

p.s i own a 266bw,its awesome and you can lower the res to 1600x900,but wheres the fun in that?the smart thing to do right now is find a sweet deal on a x1950x and use that until better dx10 hardware is available i.e.6 months from now (hopefully)

Hey I am also thinking of buying an 8600gt/s (then volt mod it) I believe you would get ALRIGHT performance in game on medium settings, Second lcd monitors look crap and any resolution apart from their native resolution, Third the X1950PRO will beat the 8600GT in a majority of games but the X1950PRO and 8600GTS seem to trade blows until 1920x1080 then the 1950PRO takes control, Forth dx10 gaming is out of the question when it comes to the 8600 series.

will i know that the 8600GT is pretty crap but im waiting for the second gen of dx10 cards. the x1950xt costs 70$ more so i cant afford it. the pro costs 23$ more so i can consider it, is it far better than the GT? im gonna OC the GT so take that in mind.

With adequate volt mods the 8600 series can 75% of the time push 1GHZ core clock BUT since the 8600GT doesn't have an external power connector it uses more then the 75watts supplied by the pci-e bus when overclocked, I would definitely consider the 8600GTS if you want to OC it to the max. Also the general overclocks i see when volt modded are 1015ish core and 1200ish mhz memory with a Very high end air cooler.

hmmmm

thats tough, what are you currently running?
the bottom line is that if you wana run high res i.e 1680x1050 then its gona cost you.im currently using a 7900gt 256mb and it does ok in some titles ie company of heroes (35-40 fps medium-high settings), however i had to drop the res to 1600x900 for stalker which looked disapointing. i would say you would probably get similar performance out of the 8600,probably a bit better. i may be wrong here.

i guess the 8600 would do ok until the next gen hardware arrives

not even a little little pencil mod? well the 8600GT seems to hit a wall around 720 core and 1720 memory and the 8600GTS gets to about 765 core and 2320mhz memory un-modded with the stock cooler.

The X1950 PRO will absolutely destroy the 8600 GT if 1680x1050 is the resolution you want to play at.

That's simply too high a res for the 8600 GT to handle, plain and simple.

Hey out of my mind! stop reading my every thought! :D Seriously now, the 8600GT won't even run on properly on low resolutions, let alone a high one. Buying a 8600GT(S) is like paying nVidia to sell you boxed dog crap with a cooler on it, If you really want an 8600GT then let me know I'll get some crap from my dog and strap an old HSF on it and mail it to you for $120.

But if you don't want crap and are into gaming, then get the X1950Pro/7900GS/X1950XT.
