Surprising that intel did not beat the street - they cut prices a little too much. stock fell 60 cents after the quarterly release.

I was betting on $40 intel - i might have to settle for $30?

I called the bottom on amd - ok sure you did - look back in feb. Anyways i think amd will start to out perform intel in 2 months.

Amd is slow on the die shrink this could be the deciding factor on the amd/intel spread trade!

Turpit, you've linked the report for Q2 2004... . Here's the latest link with the figures: http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/irol/10/101302/Intel2007Q2EarningsReleaseFinal.pdf

Revenue $8.7 Billion...up 8% YOY
Operating Income $1.35 Billion...up 26% YOY
Net Income $1.3 Billion

P.S. Hopefullly the link above works. Otherwise, you can just browse Intel's site to find it.

Actually, it lost $1.28 in after hours trading...ouch! The only reason for this is because it didn't beat margin expectations of 48%...but got 46.9 instead. Everthing else in the report exceeded street expectations. Also, the main reason for missing margins was due to the flash memory business...more will come out about this in the next couple of days.

I speculate that another main reason is the expenditures that Intel is doing for their future tech - Penryn is ramping which can only mean that Nehalam is in development production. Since Q2 is typically the worst quarter, why not just overload the *ouch* factor :).

The good fact here to see is that they are expecting 52% for Q3 and analysts are calling for some quarters of up to 60% next year. That's incredible (read here as I don't believe it, but will be excited if it happens)!

Their margins are disappointing, but their revenue and profit growth are very nice (as was to be expected, really). With Intel margins this low with a product that is actually sellable, I fear for AMD financials. But as Wall street is fickle, as long as AMD doesn't lose more than 500 million, their stock will go up :-D

Margins fell from 51% to 47%... the investors spanked intel's share price. And Intel's price cut in a few days has not been accounted yet, the reported quarter had the April cuts in them. Have to wait until Oct. to see the results of this price cut. Far from over.

I don't think AMD has enough chips to supply in 2 months plus they are only releasing a low-end Barcelona chip

Actually Dragonsprayer, they sold more of these cheaper CPU's than anticipated. THAT is what trimmed the margins.
