Show greyed out areas of my computer

how do i show greyed out areas. use win xp w/sp3. somehow i changed computer settings and areas are greyed out.

Wellllll that's a bit ambiguous... but I'm assuming you mean something about theme settings. Try right clicking on your desktop, go to properties, go the the appearance tab, then under Windows and buttons drop down, select windows XP and hit apply. See if that works.
