hi
i have a plextor 712a which can burn dvds at max 12x however i only have 8x and 4x dvd disks

ive had it for a few years and its been fine however i reinstalled windows and installed the latest drivers and software and now it only burns at 1.3x no matter what media i put in, the same media i have been using for ages which used to burn at max speeds.

does anyone know why this has happened thanks

It can think of two things,
1) in your device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers set your DVD writer's bus to DMA/Auto its probably set to some old standard like PIO. I think this is the problem.
2) Maybe you have a demo software that restricts your write speed. This is not likely as you probably have a full limited version that came with your drive.

Cheers

hi
thanks for quick reply

i went into IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

and there are several controllers both primary and secondry

all have dma set where available
but some of them say not applicable apart from one primary and one secondry
the primary one under where i selected dma says ultra dma mode 6
the secondry one under where i selected dma says pio mode

if im right in my thinking the hard drive is the primary one and dvd writer secondry

so howcome have i set it to dma if available and its set to pio mode

thanks again
