Drive Cloning

I am trying to upgrade a buddy of mine's computer with a HDD I no longer need, he has an old HP running a 1.3 Celery stick, 256 ram, and a 30 gig HDD, I am trying to install the 120 gig I no longer need into his machine by just cloning. Symantec Ghost 12 won't let it boot, driveimage xml I think it's called, would let it boot, but some files were still messed up. So I am looking for anything I can find that might make this work before I have to head back home, which is in another state, or I would just take it home plug it in to my home machine and clone that way.

The problem very well could be that the machine can't run any program written in the 21st century. You might be best cloning it on your machine. He seriously needs a new machine or at least 512MB.
