Ok so heres my questions. In your opinion which card is better? i currently have an xfx 7900gt 256mb factory overclocked 520 core & 1.5ghz memory. It is a fantastic card and all but i have been offered a HD2600XT 512mb GDDR3 card to try and if i like then i can keep. I know that the 7900 has 24piplines apposed 2 that of the 2600, has a smaller bus and it does not quite have the same core and clock speeds as the 7900gt. I'm sure that i read sumwhere that the midrange DX10 cards are similar to the performance of the high end DX9 (7900/x1950) so long as you don't game with AA/AF.
So long story short, is it worth getting the 512mb HD2600xt or stick with the 256mb 7900gt
(p.s apparently the 512mb version of the 2600 is rare so i may only get this opportunity once, will be here at end of month)
If you can keep your 7900, get the 2600 and wait for drivers to improve. I did a similar upgrade path, with a $135 ebay 7900 upgrading to a 2900xt. I had to keep my 7900, bc drivers are total sh!1 right now. Just give them some time.
Yep, keep what you have for now.
But, if you have a situation where you can try it, and give it back if you don't feel it's good upgrade, go ahead and give it try to see what you think.
Be very careful opening the packaging and all, because you will be wanting to return it I am pretty confident.

NO drivers in the world can help the 2600 series. They are an even bigger flop than the 8600s. Even if drivers do improve performance, it won't be worth the money. Don't try to say it has DX10 because anything lower than an 8800 or 2900 is just crap in DX10 demos.
The 8600GTS is close to the performance of the 7900GT and X1950, but the 2600 can't even beat the 8600GT. Stick with the 7900GT. Don't waste your money.
Best advice for upgrading: Are you happy with the current performance of your machine? If you are, don't upgrade until you absolutely have to. At this point you could just wait till the next series of cards come.
Keep what you have performance wise a 2600xt regardless of what size memory it comes with is about on a par with a 7600gt tops.
Dont even mess your system about trying it on a free.

hey thanks 4 the feed back. I'm extremely happy with this 7900gt atm and so far hasn't let me down (apart from world in conflict as it needs a 512mb card 2 run high textures). But yes it is a try before i buy sorta thing, so if i don't like it then i don't have 2 keep it. i noticed 1 major thing comparing these 2 cards and it was that the 7900 has 48-50gig per second bandwidth where as the 2600 has only 25gigps! I think i will try it but steer clear from keeping it. i htought the Hd2600's were better then the 8600's?
Nope, the 8600 are better than the HD2600, but please do not misunderstand what I just said. NEITHER OF THEM ARE ANY GOOD, unless you plan to use the GF8600/HD2600 as frisbees (which is probably the only good use), stay AWAY from these cards.
Lol thanks Emp i think you hit the nail on the head with that 1. Theres nothing coming off my back if try the hd2600xt, if i don't like it or it doesn't work real well then i can get my 7900gt back no problem. the card only costs $153 Aus so its rather cheap.
