ok first of all im a total noob i just got into building comps...everything i know (which is not much) on how to build a comp is off a current book i read from barnes and noble...though i do have a friend that build pc's. so if i sound a bit off or kinda sound like "uhhhhh" please be patient...lol. well to my question: I've got a few links to what i want to build...im looking into intel's cpu...something either with 2.0GHz or more. mobo...im going w/a p35 board, the rest would be posted w/links. i want to know if the stuff im going to purchase is compatible w/each other. any suggestions please let me know.

Went to link for motherboard and I do not see where it says compatible for ATI only graphic cards. I know alot of gamers using Nvidia 7900 & 8800 series Cards with this motherboard. But the choice is yours to make.

Would suggest you get this Sound Card below. It has 5 eggs at NewEgg and it also has Vista Drivers qavailable for it.

bluegears b-Enspirer 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

Why just the ASUS Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA, instead of a DVD Burner. Like these 2 below.

ASUS 18X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe and 14X DVD-RAM Write Black SATA Model DRW-1814BLT - Retail

Sony NEC Optiarc 18X DVD±R DVD Burner, OEM Version Black SATA Model AWG170S-B2 - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827131047

Otherwis e your Specs seems to be really good.

Hope this helped you out some. :wahoo:

Tomorrow intel is releasing new CPUs (E6550, E6750, E6850, Q6700 QX6850, and a few aggressive price cuts) so I'd go with an E6750 (Faster, new stepping for better OC'bility, and cheaper than the E6420).

About the mobo, I'd drop it and go for another P35 based mobo, the GA-P35-DS3R. I haven't heard neither good nor bad things from that MSI mobo, but from the Gigabyte there's only good stuff to be said, so... ultimately the choice is yours. Also it's a lie what you heard about graphics card and P35s, the P35 based mobos work equally good with Ati and Nvidia cards.

I would get the Mushkin ram, but on the other hand on the PSU department they are not too keen yet (they've been improving though), so I would restrict myself from buying any mushkin PSUs for at least 6 months to a year.

Get this one instead, one my favorite PSUs from one of the most reputable companies in the PSU industry:

SeaSonic S12 Energy Plus SS-550HT ATX12V/EPS12V, 80Plus, Active PFC, RoHS, 2PCI-E(6Pin), 550W Power Supply - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151027

The power supplied by this is very similar to the one of the mushkin (forget about wattage), and this would give you peace of mind, your call again, but for PSUs I am very strict on what I'm buying for myself (which transmits to what I end up recommending for others).

I see that you listed a DVD-rom and not a DVD-burner, which is odd because the DVD burners nowadays are so cheap, but if you feel you don't need it, then it's also good.

hmm you guys are right i should prolly go w/a dvd-burner. the one yoosty suggested looks pretty clean...

E6750 does sound nice...what im trying to do i build a low budget pc but w/good psu and cpu and everything else descent. Reason is that im most likely to upgrade my video and ram later in the future ..hopefully a few months later after the build. i know any descent video card would be better than my current one (BFG Tech 6200 OC AGP)

for the mobo that emp mentioned i have also heard nothing but good things...ill compare both mobo and see which one fits best. the psu you mentioned also...sea sonic 550w...would that be enough for future upgrades? lets say like an 8800GTX, better ram or blu ray. what do you guys think of this psu...

Thermaltake Toughpower 750W
http://clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=CA6211187

thanks for the help guys...i really appreciate all the suggestions and pointers. once again thank you.

I'd still take the Seasonic over it, Same amps on the 12V rails, same amount of rails, but with seasonic quality (not saying thermaltake is bad, they're good, not Seasonic good)

And yes it'll take a GTX and way way more. Ditch blu ray too, not worth it at this moment, it'll become amazingly cheaper soon.

You can just use the stock HSF if you're not doing any overclocking and you'll be more than fine, however if you want to keep temps even cooler and have the possibility of a mild OC in the future, you can get one of these two:

Scythe SCKTN-2000 100mm Sleeve "Katana 2" CPU Cooler - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185044&Tp k=scythe%2bkatana%2b2

OR

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134&Tp k=Arctic%2bcooler%2bfreezer%2bpro%2b7

Both are affordable, decent HSF. Pick any and you'll be happy either way.
