Android apps not running on Sylvania tablet

My dad got a Sylvania Magni-Tab for Christmas and we're having difficulty running certain apps on it. Should I dowload something special?
I downloaded a game from the Amazon App store, and it loaded, but when you open the game and click on "play" it closes and sends you back to the home page. Anyone have any ideas?
