Look at the Pioneer's at Newegg, should be about $40 shipped.

I have an 18 x Samsung DVD burner that is the quietest burner I've ever had but it ATA but would imagine the SATA would be just as quiet. It was about $30 and works great
What are the model numbers of your recommendations?
All recommendations would be most appreciated. It is very difficult to find articles on inexpensive DVD burners that are a decent quality. Toms did a trial on 3 models? Maybe I missed others?

My ATA Samsung is an SH-S182D, at least that's what Device Manager shows
Samsung makes quieter drives than others, true. It's probably your best bet under $50.
I have a $30 LG GSA-H62N and a $70 Plextor PX-810SA. The Plextor is quieter, it came with better software, and it can dump an 8 GB movie to the HDD in 11 minutes instead of 25. Apart from that they're both just fine and I can't see any difference.
Pioneer or LG... Pioneer usually has better bundles, not crippled playback software that only lets you watch movies in Stereo etc...

Yeah, LG, Pioneer and Samsung are all good. I got an LG dvd rom which was quiet, but my LG burner is hella noisy I get by of course since at least 1 of my drives is quiet.
My next one will probably be a samsung. I read that they have clever ball bearing dealies that help dampen noise caused by wobbly discs.
