My question is:
What is the equivalent of Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 Video Chipset to Nivida graphics card, GeForce 4series, FX series, 6 series?

Can the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 Video Chipset play Guild Wars, Call of Duty 2, Counter Strike:Source smoothly (with low graphics settings)?

I plan to buy a new computer for about $400-$600 depending on how much I can save. Some of those computer are
way better than my current computer. I don't know whether I should buy a computer with "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 Video Chipset" or "GeForce 6100 or 6150". The computers with the Intel GMA 950 comes with more ram and the computers that come with less ram have GeForce 6100 or 6150. I am trying to get the most of out my money. I perfer gameplay over high graphics.

If you like to game at all you really should look at putting something like this in your new PC:

It's not that expensive and it is a great performer; makes all the difference in the world. Good luck.

Thanks! I think I will buy that and my $400 computer at the store and someone install that for me.

One more question: Does it support Vista Basic?

Just one more thing:

If you're going to buy an inexpensive PC make sure that

A) It has a PCI Express slot. I haven't bought a prebuilt in a while so I don't know how many are made without; just be sure. I had a friend buy a prebuilt gateway that only had a PCI slot (not even AGP) about 2 years ago. Man was he pissed, but it was his own fault.

B) just make sure it has a good enough Power supply to run a card like a 7600 GT. 7600 GT doesn't need a lot of power but it never hurts to be sure. If you check under specs of the 7600 GT it says minimum 350 W power supply (and +12 volt rating of 18 amps).

Just don't want you to buy something and not be able to use it.

Yes, the 7600GT is a DX9 card.

Just make sure that the budget PC you buy has a PCI-e x16 port.

PCI-e replaced AGP.
AGP replace PCI.
PCI is old and slow. Only sound cards and controller cards and some other minor cards use this port now. Very, very few brands make PCI video cards now.

Ok, Thank you!

This the computer I'm on is a 97 model and it only has a PCI slot open.

From capabilities alone, Geforce 61xx is better than GMA950 as it has Vertex Shader and GMA950 doesn't have it. Information on which games will run on GMA950 can be found here. It's not complete so maybe there're other games will run on it too. That list is only effective when you use XP though as most game won't run with GMA950 on Vista with good result or won't run at all. It supports Vista Premium though. As for game compatibility the onboard Nvidia 61xx (it's AMD exclusive though) should be better but don't expect it runs any good with RAM less than 1GB.

I have a GMA950 over here so I can tell you these. Those games you listed only Call of Duty 2 won't run for sure (as it needs HW vertex shader to run) but you can trick it to run using 3DAnalyze. I haven't tried 3DAnalyze (google it) with Call of Duty 2 but I think it will work. Half Life 2 runs fine but will noticeable slow down when turning on the flash light. FEAR (borrowed from a friend) runs sub optimal but is playable at the lowest settings.

Actually FPS is thing I only play when I'm extremely bored. I like game that I can drink tea and play in leisure. For RPG (I play mostly D&D though with some rare exceptions) I can assure you those will run: Fallout 1+2, Baldur's Gate 1+2, Icewind Dale 1+2, Planescape Torment and Neverwinter Nights (the first is good and runs fine, the 2nd is a disappointment for me as it needs 3dAnalyze to run and the game itself sucks IMO). Survival horror: Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill 4 runs as it should on a high end machine but need 3dAnalyze trick. Other games I play are Japanese turn based (Western shore turn based are all suck IMO), most of them are console though (like Fire Emblem, Super Robot Wars, Battle Orge etc...) and the ones that are on PC are most/all eroge (adult games that has turn based matches in them), and Japanese Visual Novels (those are aliens to most westerner), all of them run fine as most of them don't even need 3D acceleration to run.
So an onboard is enough for me as most games I play don't need a dedicated card and I'm a casual gamer who took 1 month play a half of Planescape Torment (the whole game may took 3 months as I haven't touched it for a week because of life and some Japanese novels lol).

If you're a FPS guy I think you should take the advice of buying a GF7600GT though as those games will run fluidly on it and that mean less fatigue over long playing session.

I wouldn't even much on a GFX if your not a heavy gamer the 7600GT is good but for less money the 7300GT can so all the same stuff(with less oomph of course)

55$

And if you do want something good i say a 8600GT for 100$ is far better IMHO then a 7600GT plus it only costs about 15$ more and you get all those great media encoding goodies.
100$

Both of cards wont need an external power connection they get all the power off the PCI-E lane(75W) and the 8600GT pulls a mere 43W.
