i got my pc last christmas as a gift for myself. i use it on pc gaming, web surfing, video/photo editing (sometimes). now im not that good in tinkering so i visit these forums for help most often. here's my current rig - any suggestions for upgrade would be deeply appreciated.

here's my current specs -
mobo - intel 946gz
processor - intel pentium d 3.4ghz
gfx - PowerColor ATI x1950
memory - 2pcs Kingston 1gb ddr2 667
heatsink - enzotech ultra-x (soon)
psu - Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ATX12V 650W (soon)
others - Lite-On DVD-RW

also, how far would it last ie too old for new games?

It's an OK system. I would have changed a few thing tough. The mobo (chipset) you mentionned only support single-DDR2, which reduce the bandwidth available to your cpu. It wouldn't be a problem with DDR2-800, which can "fill-up" your fsb available bandwidth, but with DDR2-667 you're surely loosing a few percentage point of performances there.

For the rest of it, it's OK for a good 2 years for anything but games and HD DVD. For this, you'll beed a stronger VPU (for games) or a stronger CPU (HD-DVD) to feel confortable. I'd start by putting a C2D cpu if you want to upgrade.

Good luck!

yo
well obviously to play dx10 games you are gona need a dx10 graphics card.however for now your system is pretty solid.i would look at upgrading the mobo over the next 2months.mobos are a huge complicated world which i am not all that clued up on,however i would go for something using the intel 975 or 680 chipset.

then i would start saving for a new cpu,the e6600 or even e6450 are great performers and are becoming very affordable.you gota go dual core (or even quad core although i would stay away from it for now).

by then there should be new dx10 cards available
