My ASUS DRW-1814BLT will not open. Once I pull it open it shuts 1/4 of the way and I have to push it back in. Is there any way to fix this problem?
thanks

You could try opening the casing and see if there is something stuck in the opening/closing mechanism. I would recommend you be very careful when you do this because the laser will be exposed and you don't want mess with that.

If you have some spare cash, just go out and buy another for $40.

Yeah, just get an LG. I had a crap drive once and it was actually installing stuff with errors. Not worth the bother.

Possibly, you would have to open it up and visually inspect the tray mechanism. I'm not familiar with your drive but it can be either one of two types: either it has a motor and gears or it is belt driven. Either way the motor may be gummed up with some dust/debris that you will need to clear away. Also, it just might be worn out too depending on age and use.
