My Soyo KT-133 Dragon Lite/AMD Athlon XP 1500+ system w/ 512mb of PC2700 ddr 333 became unreliable during booting(no beeps at all, then ocasionally boots and works fine). The system was in an Antec case w/ 300 watt PSU (I swapped it for a new 500 watt Antec replacement PSU yesterday). Finding old Socket A boards/cpu's/memory isn't all that easy. Tried a used FIC AU-31 with the above, but it wouldn't boot either (no beeps...seller claims it was tested, but he'll make good on it). Since the new power supply could run many later boards....what would be a very economical combo, not necessarily a Socket A type, to put in this case. Preferably on that could use the existing memory, if possible.
PS: This will be a low budget back-up sys because I built a new Asus M2R32-MVP/Athlon 64 X2 6000+ based system for the wife yesterday.

I'd go for a sempron socket 754 with k8m800 board with onboard video. I built a system with the ecs board and athlon 64 2800 and gave it to my sister. Sempron with heatsink will run you about $35 and the board about $28 shipped, both newegg open box specials. If you prefer the 754 athlon 64, you can still sometimes find it without heatsink for around $40 at places like computer geeks.

Thanks Guys,
I was able to get a used MSI KT3 Ultra2-c in exchange for the $30 used FIC that was just as dead as my Soyo. Works fine but is limited in processor upgrades. Will keep your suggestions in mind for later!
THNAK GOD YOUR SOCKET A FINALLY DIES!!!!! WOOHOO!! Now you can upgrade to C2D. Keep your case and your drives, sell off mobo, cpu, vid card, and ram(Ebay anything that still works) to offset the cost, and build a cheap C2D system. A budget socket 775 board, E4300, PCI-E vid card, and 1GB of DDR 533 is all you need. you can get it all for about $350. Hell, the upgrade in my sig only costs $600!
