Command Prompt closes immediately after opening

I need to use the command prompt for some work. When I open it, (from Start>Programs or from Start>Run>cmd) it closes after a few seconds before I can do anything. I'm not sure why it does this. I've recently deleted and re-installed Windows XP, the only thing I can think of is that there was a problem during the installation. Anyone know how to fix this?

1.Restore CMD.EXE - Line 228 (right hand side)
