I'm using my old Pentium 4-based, FX 5200 rig as an HTPC.

Will I be better off getting the Windows XP version of Media Center or can I get the new Vista version with the FX 5200?

Thank You!

Either will work, but XP will be more responsive and the Media Center part works great. I use MCE for my media center and even with 512MB ram it runs well and boots up / down very fast since there isn't much installed, just Win Media Player 11, DivX, Real Alternative, Quicktime Alternative and very few others.

Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
1024MB DDR-400
FX 5200
330GB HDD

I know everything else can run Vista, but what about the FX 5200?

I am currently running the following settup with Vista Home premium for my HTPC and it runs the media center great.

I personally think the video playback quality in Vista is a lot better then under XP.

2.8 Celeron
1gig DDR400
Turtlebeach Audio card
Gforce 4200Ti
