I dunno much about Graphic cards. But basically what will you look for in a graphic card? Is it the ram or what?
Hi gravite im sorry but its really quite involved to learn about graphics cards will take a lot of reading, googling is good and im sure toms main site will have some usefull stuff.
Very roughly up to the x**** and Nvidea7 series the cards work on pixel pipelines more the better the core and memory speeds in MHz also higher is better and what type of memory ddr2/gddr3/gddr4 again bigger no generally better. The newer ATI cards work very differently and to be honest i dont really have a handle on it myself
As i said its quite complicated and untill you are quite confident you know whats what you should always check out as manny reviews and benchmarks as you can and of course you are always welcome to drop in and ask the forum what we think of any intended purchase you may be thinking about.
The picture on the box is the most important feature. Half naked women always help to sell a card.
Joking aside, I tend to wait a few months after a card comes out, read some reviews, see how well the drivers are supported, and I'll even go down to the local PC shop (Not a big box store) and see what the guy there has to say about said card.
You need also to look more importantly on which core it uses, for example the G84 core on the 8600s runs a few hundred Mhz faster than the G80, but that doesn't mean it's any faster. In fact the G80 core rapes the G84 and G86. As many have already stated, it only takes a fair amount of reading and staying up to date. By the way memory in a Graphics card is important, but nowhere near as important as the core and architecture that they're based in.
