Had a crash while playing oblivion, and it messed up my ati-tool settings long enough for my card to temporarily overheat and turn off/back on.

Now, I love ati-tool and the ability to control the fan on my x1950xt, but I'm afraid that oblivion crashes quite frequently with the number of mods that I have, and I don't want to fry my video card.

Resetting my computer completely twice seemed to get the fan working again normally, but for 1 reset and after the first crash, the fan was not spinning up at all past 10% (couldn't even hear it going, might not have been on)

Is atitool the most stable and likely to ignore crashes from games, or can one of the other tools stand up a little better?

At this point, Id back off, go back to default, let the CCC control fan speeds, and keep an eye on temps.

I'm not overclocking, lol.

And the CCC software on automatic was keeping it at 27% and never raising it. So I'm not going to use that software :(

Maybe the crash caused atitool to unload from memory, and CCC was still going. That might have caused the problems with getting the fan back and going.

I'll take a look at the CCC settings though, and make sure the fan settings aren't rediculously low by default or something

shouldnt ati tool be used without CCC?

you can also have a look at rivatuner.

I have been having the same problem lately with the AtiTool .26.
After surfing the internet I start up the AtiTool which I have set
to set my fan speeds from 50% at 50C to 100% at 60C and with
the X1950XT you can hear the fans when you start the AtiTool.
Twice last week the fans did not start up, so I went into the fan control section of the tool and the fan speed was 0% and grayed out but all my settings for fan speed and temperature were still there.
The first time I had to reboot my computer once for the fans to work with the AtiTool. The next time I had to reboot it twice.
I thought it was the drivers that I was using because I had just installed the DNA drivers based on the ATI 7.5's. last weekend and was going to install the ATI 7.7's this weekend.
Now I'm not so sure, what drivers are you using?

I'm running the 7.6 drivers right now.
