Hello all: I would like to upgrade my xp2500
I currently have an msi k7n2g mainboard,
xp2500 barton
1 gig ocz pc2700 memory
nvideo 7600 gs 512mb video card AGP bus
3dmark 2001 SE score is around 12,000 depending on reliabilty.
flightsim 2004 1024x768 32 bit with pretty much maxed out graphics shows around 12 fps in NY city.
I hope the above gives you some idea of my current systems speed
I do a lot of video encoding so imagine I need as fast a CPU as possible, and I also like gaming, primarily flight sims or 1st person graphics.
I would like to double my FPS in flight sim 2004 (fsX is terribly slow)
I do not have alot of cash to spend, only around $250 so with a tremendous amount of effort and lost hair I have found the following prices.
1) MSI K8TNEO2-F V2.0 for $62 from Ewiz
2) thermltek venus 12 $24 from Ewiz
3) amd64X2 6000 for $166 from newegg.
I would then re-use my current pc2700 memory for now until I get richer.
so for around $260 I could have a considerably faster system (I HOPE ?)
I hope I have not lost you by now. From what I am reading the amd64x2 6000 would easily max out my video card (thats okay with me for now) But I am going with the faster cpu because I do so much video encoding as well.
The bottom line question I am asking. Am I throwing my money away on this faster 6000 cpu? And are there any other suggestions people may have to save myself some money, yet maintain comparable performance levels?
Once again my ultimate goal is to get faster FPS in my flight sims ( I was hoping to double them) And to speed up my video encoding.
Thank you all very much for your time and assistance.
