know its mnore of a hardware post but hey xD

anyway, I recently bought bout 4 gigs (2x2096 pc2700 ddr 333mhz from Crucial) worth of ram, and a new ati video card (agp x8) and started wondering about my motherboard.

did some research and it seems (as best i can tell from the description) that it only supports up to 2 gigs of ram.... doesnt sound logical to me, but i dunno.

and i also discovered that my agp slot is only x4, but the card i bought (x1650 pro) supports x4 and x8.

so, I began doing some research as to motherboards that would fulfill my needs, and i havent found one yet that seems to meet what i need, except maybe one, but the pcxxxx req for ram is not listed on it.

here are some of the ones im looking at:

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/mb/content.php?S_ID=4
http://www.biosta r.com.tw/app/en-us/mb/content.php?S_ID=229
http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/m b/content.php?S_ID=231

this is my current one:
http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/mb/content.php?S_ID=242

Now, a few questions that sprung up during my search:

most of those one im looking at take dual ddr, is that the same as regular ddr?

also, if anyone knowns, what the pcxxxx req for any of those is, i'd need it to be pc2700.

So, my ideal board would have to have these:

agp x8 slot, at least 3 pci slots, support 4 gigs of ram (that would have to support pc2700 ddr 333 mhz), be ide compatible, usb 2.0, and preferably be compatible with a Celeron-D 345 processor

if anyone can give me a hand with this id appreciate it.

ok, i settled on a Asus P4P800-VM board.

supports 4 gigs of ram, agp, ide, penitum 4 + celeron ect.

rmaing the ram back to tiger direct, their desc of it was misleading, its for server only (contacted crucial and asked).

so, heres what im lining up for getting, if you could make any comments, id appreciate it.

Board: P4P800-VM

Vid Card: Radeon x1650 pro agp 8x

Sound Card: Looking for one at sound blaster, most likely going to be an x-fi

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 socket 478 800 fsb 1mb lv1 cache (might be a l2) 3.4 ghz w/ ht

Ram: 4x 1024 OZC platinum Dual channel pc3200 ddr

Power supply: QUESTION!

What kind of power supply would go best here? i have a 350 wat on my current pc, but im sure that wont cut it on the new build.

Is there any reason you don't want to get a board with PCIe for the video and DDR2 RAM? I mean that's the best bang for your buck I think, price wise its about or perhaps a tiny bit for a newer Mobo that supports Core2 duo or quad. Just my 3cents.

well for right now, this is just a minor upgrade, im going to be saving up for an alienware once the prices of the parts drop a little (8.5k is alot to dish out xD).

and i just bought that agp card, want to hold off on pci-e till i updrage to an alienware.

so yeah not looking for a completely pwning computer atm, just want to upgrade my current one so that it can handel the load i pu on it better then it is (really started getting slow this past year and the mb i have currently is 2 gig max, but id like the 4 (or in this case 3.5 or how ever much xp supports out of the total 4) gigs + the overhaul.)
