Hi everyone-

Has anyone installed a non-stock CPU fan (i.e. Zalman or Arctic Cooling) on the Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3 motherboard? The initial measurements I’ve taken look like it will be tough to fit anything larger than the stock Intel fan (due more to the proximity of the Northbridge & the memory slots to the CPU on the board than to the proximity of the power supply in the case).

(The board is currently at Gigabyte for RMA/repair so I’ve had to take estimates based on an image of the board from the web site and measurements from the inside of my chassis.)

Before I order something to try it, I wanted to see if anyone had a working configuration already with a non-stock fan and could direct me to a good fan for this configuration:

Intel E6600 CPU
GA-965G-DS3 motherboard
CoolerMaster Centurion CAC-T05 chassis

These are the fans I've looked at so far, but I'm not sure any of them will fit on this board:

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've used an ACF7P on a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with no problems. You realize the Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3 (onboard graphics) overclocks poorly compared to the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 (no graphics). So an expensive after market heatsink would probably be a waste if you use that board.

Thanks for the input - not sure yet if I'll stick with the stock fan or get a new one but it's good to know that there's an option. I'm not planning on overclocking at this point but given the board is getting repaired I may need to get a new one; I'll look at the 965P if that happens.

Thanks!
