For my computer build, I have everything figured out with the exception of my PSU. I need one that will do the job, but I don't have a lot of money to spare for it, so it can't be overly expensive. I'll be running an e6600, eVga Geforce 8800GTS 320mb, cold cathodes, LED fans, etc. Suggestions?

Well, I've been eyeing this one. Should have plenty of power on the 12v rails for your system and the price looks good too.

I swear by Seasonic / Corsair. But then I'm noise-conscious.

Will 600W be enough to power everything?

Enermax make a great PSU, there Infinity 720 watt has some very cool features that no one else has. Like when you shut your PC off the fans remain on until the temp go's below a set point. They go for $219.99 at NewEgg and also there PCI-Express 2.0 ready.

Thats more than enough, I'm running with only a Antec Neo Power 480 watt PSU with total 32 amps. Look at my sig my overclock is massive and still got power to spare. I payed about $130-$150 for it two years ago. If you wanted you could get a 500 watter and that would be more than enough. With your budget (which I didn't notice before) I'd go for an Antec 480-500 watt PSU will at least two PCI-E connector. On 480 watts I believe that I could even run a 8800 GTX as I'm only using 327 watts with what I'm running now. NewEgg has the Neo 650 Blue with 3+12 volt rails for $159.99, you could save even more if you go 500 watts for lots less.

Here are two indespensable tools you need to use when you pick out a PSU.

#1. Calculator to see how many watts you will draw - http://www.extreme.outervision.com [...] orlite.jsp
#2. After you know how many watts you need, you need to know what brand to buy. Check this list out to find your answer - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forum [...] p?t=108088

------------------------------ e6600(3.0ghz 1.325v) on Noctua U12F,XFX 680i mobo, EVGA 640mb 8800gts, Modded antec 900 for CM, 1tb(2x500gb wd re2)+150gb raptor, Vista home premium 64 bit, mx 5000 K+M, dual sammy's 19(193p+)+22(226bw "s" ), z5500+HD595's, xfi plat, 850watt enermax Galaxy

MSI is a 5th tier PSU. Its pure ****, do NOT purchase it!

Calculating how many watts your system needs is not as important as the amps the 12v rails provides. A system like yours will pull 175 to 225 watts maximum at start up and idle. There are meters available to measure watts and I use one. It the availabiility of 12v amps that calls to question and becomes stressed when you use your system. The 22/22 dual 12 volt rails on the power supply I listed is sufficient to run your system and the 8800 series card you have. Your 8800 irequires a minimum of 26 amps. The MSI unit should do fine for you. It's $79.00. You could easily spend $150 to $200 on a power supply and you mentioned cost is a factor. For $79 the PSU I listed will do very well for your needs. The unit is hardly a pos.

For the same price ($79.99), I'd get the following PSU:
http://www.buy.com/prod/Corsair_HX [...] 70716.html

There is a $20 rebate involved but the shipping is free. I have the 620W version and it's the quietest PSU I've owned. Common knowledge is that the Corsair units are manufactured by Seasonic.

how about this? its a combo deal with the 640mb 8800GTS over at Newegg... there are conflicting reviews...
<a href="

The Corsair link was broken up there, any recommended models, for the type of computer Pyroflea mentioned?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I need something a little cheaper...

Here's one I just got. It has a lot of good reviews, and was on the tier 2 list referenced from above. It also has modular cables.

Good pickup! I fixed it in the original post and am also putting it here in case the OP doesn't notice:

This is the 520W Corsair quiet power supply. (And it really is quiet) Everyone thinks this is manufactured by Seasonic - though there's no exact equivalent in the Seasonic lineup. According to the extremesystems taxonomy, this is a Tier 2 power supply.

OP's 8800GTS requires 26 amps minimum on the 12v rails(s). The PSU you linked provides 24 amps max. and will not adequately power his system.

Yeah, very good price on that unit with rebate. Great for that price. That's what I was trying to do with the MSI I linked. Get OP something that would power his system with the 8800 without costing him an arm and a leg.

Excellent specs. I considered this psu and tried to find one just a little cheaper. ;)

Alright, the Corsair and the Enermax are both within my preferred price range, so which would give me the best bang-for-buck value?

The Corsair is the better deal, cheaper and 40 amps on the 12volt rail vs. 32amps. I have the HX520 with a similar setup and it only uses at most 230 watts. Here is a good review to help in your decision:
